Initiated in 2013, this 4 acre Orchard has had a few hundred additional plants installed every year. It is designed as a Haskap management demonstration site as it includes 4 soil types, varying from low lying wet clays to dry loamy ridges. All of the popular University of Saskatchewan Haskap varieties are present, as well as traditional Russian (and other) varieties. PYO visitors have the chance to recognize the taste differences between varieties.

New, "virus indexed" planting stock, provided by the University of Guelph "SPUD" (Superior Plant Upgrading & Distribution) Unit were planted in 2021. New growers are welcome to visit Polar Berries private research orchard and compare results from various soil types and management techniques that have been trialed. Know what to expect before planting your own orchards! We are willing to spend a few hours with you to answer your questions.

Polar Berries uses both hand picking and semi-mechanical equipment to provide fresh Haskap to local Farmers Markets in July and August. Excess fruit is frozen, and unique Haskap preserves are made for local consumption.

Xander Farms is a certified organic family farm located in southwestern Ontario near Rodney. We specialize in growing high-quality specialty berries including haskap, black currant, aronia, and schisandra.

Our haskap plantings are an important part of our diversified berry operation. Haskap is one of the earliest berries to ripen in Ontario and is valued for its rich colour, bright flavour, and high antioxidant content. We continue to expand our orchard each year as we work to bring more awareness to this unique and promising crop.

In addition to berry production, Xander Farms is developing on-farm processing capabilities such as freezing and drying in order to offer a wider range of berry products. Our goal is to create a vertically integrated berry operation that connects Ontario-grown fruit with consumers, retailers, and food manufacturers.

We are proud to be part of Ontario’s growing haskap community and enjoy working alongside other growers to support the continued development of this exciting berry crop.
